Skincare during menopause: When the cream is no longer enough

You buy the same cream as always, but lately it seems to be missing again in the afternoon. Or the cheeks are dry while individual pimples appear on the chin. Such changes can occur around menopause. They are an opportunity to take a new look at care without having to replace the entire bathroom.

Skincare during menopause often begins with more comfort: gentle cleansing, a suitable cream and fewer additional stimuli. Which adjustment feels good remains individual.

Why skin may feel different

Hormonal changes can cause skin to retain less moisture and become more sensitive. At the same time, impurities can occur. That is why the image of exclusively dry, “mature skin” does not suit every person.

Whether a specific change is actually related to menopause cannot be determined from a blog post. A rash, persistent itching or sudden severe skin problems should be treated by a doctor. Cosmetics can care; it does not regulate hormones.

Start with washing

If the skin feels tight immediately after drying, it’s worth taking a look at water, cleansing and friction. Lukewarm water, a mild cleanser and careful blotting can make the step more comfortable. Coarse exfoliation grains or a cleansing brush are not a good attempt to “clean up” the feeling if you have irritated skin.

For those who like gel cleansing, the Beauty of Joseon Green Plum Refreshing Cleanser is a possible option. It contains, among other things, glycerin and is lathered up with water and rinsed off. If you have very sensitive skin, even a mildly described product is still something you need to get to know carefully at first.

A cream that can be left on after washing

When it comes to dryness, a creamier skincare product may be more suitable than a very light lotion. Ingredients such as glycerin bind moisture. Supplementary lipids help keep the skin supple. There does not have to be a special menopause label on the packaging.

The COSRX The Ceramide Skin Barrier Moisturizer is a fragrance-free option with glycerin, squalane and ceramides. If you are primarily looking for a pleasant finishing cream after cleansing, you can start here. Spread it gently without massaging or rubbing for long.

If you like care in a jar, the Pyunkang Yul Moisture Cream contains, among other things, jojoba oil and shea butter. It offers a different entry via the creamy texture. Both examples are moisturizers, not treatments for hormonal problems.

When dry cheeks and impurities come together

Then you don’t have to apply the same generous amount of cream to your entire face. You can target dry areas and start thinner on less dry areas. At the same time, new impurities are no reason to clean more and more vigorously.

Before adding an acid toner and a retinal serum, check whether the cleanser and cream already fit. What worked well for younger, oilier skin may now feel too intense. Recurring inflammatory pimples or painful areas need dermatological help if necessary.

Select additional active ingredients with a little patience

An active ingredient product is easier to evaluate if you know the rest of the routine. Don’t start with several new products at the same time. Burning and persistent redness are not proof that a treatment is working particularly well.

If you are interested in vitamin A care, you will find the right information in the retinol and retinal introduction. Our skin barrier guide also fits the role of a well-cared outer skin layer .

FAQs about skincare during menopause

Do I have to change my entire routine?

No. If only your cheeks have become drier, start adjusting there. This makes it easier for you to recognize what is helpful and you can continue to use familiar products.

Should I exfoliate dry areas more often?

For thin, sensitive or irritated skin, more exfoliation is not a good standard solution. Have persistent flaky or inflamed areas checked instead of repeatedly removing them.

Where does sun protection belong?

In the morning on uncovered skin, after other skincare products and before make-up. You can read about how UV protection is related to long-term skincare in sun cream for wrinkles.
