Kojic Acid in Skin Care: What Does Kojic Acid Mean on Your Serum?

Behind Kojic Acid on the ingredient list is kojic acid. It is used in cosmetic care when the skin tone appears uneven: the substance can inhibit an enzyme that is involved in the formation of the skin pigment melanin. The term “acid” does not automatically mean that the product is intended to remove dead skin cells like an AHAn exfoliation. This distinction helps if you have several serums in front of you, all of which promise a more even complexion.

In the medicube Kojic Acid Turmeric Niacinamide Serum kojic acid is combined with niacinamide, turmeric extract and other ingredients. Glycolic acid is also on the list. A change caused by this mixture cannot therefore be attributed solely to kojic acid. And a brown mark after a pimple is something different than a reddish mark: Our article on pimple marks and pigment spots helps to classify them.

The serum comes after cleansing and, if necessary, the toner, before the cream. Start with a few drops and introduce additional new active ingredient products at different times so that you can better monitor tolerability. Sun protection is a must in the morning. If the skin burns or becomes noticeably irritated, stop using the new product.

How does Kojic Acid fit into the routine?

Only use kojic acid according to the instructions for the specific product and introduce it individually. Multiple products with kojic acid, acid exfoliation and retinoid in the same evening can put unnecessary strain on the skin. Sun protection is a must in the morning; There is no promise of guaranteed whitening or a fixed period of time.
