Milky Toner: What actually makes a facial toner milky?
Some toners look like water, others like diluted milk. The word “milky” first describes this look and the routined-for feel. It doesn’t say it contains cow’s milk, nor does it specify how rich the toner will be on your skin.
Where does the milky appearance come from?
Finely dispersed components can scatter light and make a liquid appear cloudy. Fat components or fine powders distributed in a formula can contribute to this. Milky toners are therefore not a uniform product group with a single composition. How much moisture or how much supple care they provide depends on the entire formula.
An illustrative example is the Beauty of Joseon Glow Replenishing Rice Milk . According to the manufacturer, it has two layers: a moisturizing liquid and a powder layer, which includes kaolin. Before applying, the bottle is shaken gently. The shedding of this intended layer is normal for this product; the same declaration does not automatically apply to every separated or altered cosmetic.
How does a milky toner feel?
Milky can be light. The Anua Rice 70 Glow Milky Toner is described by the manufacturer as having a light texture. Its formula combines rice bran water with glycerin, niacinamide and panthenol, among other things. So the name doesn’t promise a thick lotion. After cleansing, put some toner in your hands and gently distribute it over the face. A cotton pad is not necessary for this. Start with a thin layer: This way you can see whether the skin feels comfortable and whether serum, cream or make-up fits well over it. Multiple layers are a possibility, not a fixed requirement.
Does it replace a cream?
This cannot be deduced from the milky appearance alone. A toner often remains significantly more liquid than a cream and can contain a different mix of moisturizing and moisturizing ingredients. If your skin feels tight after toner, another layer of toner does not automatically make the right cream unnecessary.
Therefore, use it as a supplement based on your actual cared-for feel. For dry cheeks, a cream can be nice afterwards; a little toner may be enough under an already heavy routine. Sun protection is also added in the morning. You can find the general order in our article on Toner and Essence .
