A tube next to a small container with a mirror: The choice between BB Cream and Cushion often starts with the packaging. The tube fits alongside facial care. The cushion quickly goes into the bag. What you see on your skin later depends primarily on the formula, the color and how you apply it.

Maybe you just want to balance out the cheeks a bit. Maybe you like more coverage or are looking for something that can be applied in the morning without a brush. It’s easier to find your way with these questions than with the promise that a single product can do everything for every day and every skin type.

The names describe different things

A BB cream combines tinted coverage with nourishing ingredients. The exact opacity has not yet been determined. Depending on the formulation and layer, it can be stronger or lighter; A creamy product is not automatically just a sheer shade.

“Cushion” first describes the dosage form: a liquid make-up sits in a cushion inside a container and is picked up with a puff. There can be a foundation in it, for example. A BB formulation can also generally be offered as a cushion. The terms therefore do not represent two completely separate worlds.

BB Cream: spread with your hands

The Purito Seoul Wonder Releaf Centella BB Cream 13 Neutral Ivory contains, in addition to color pigments, Centella Asiatica Extract, Niacinamide and Panthenol. The manufacturer’s list for color 13 confirms these components.

Purito describes a semi-matte finish: The skin should appear balanced without looking completely dull. You can spread a small amount thinly with clean fingers and add to where you want more coverage. A thin first layer shows you better whether the look suits your ideas. If necessary, you can build further in a targeted manner.

Cushion: pick up, dab, press on

The TIRTIR Mask Fit Red Cushion 21N Ivory is explicitly a cushion foundation. TIRTIR describes buildable coverage with a natural, semi-matte finish. The included applicator is intended for dabbing application. Manufacturer’s page for the Mask Fit Red Cushion .

First pick up a little product and distribute the excess onto the applicator before applying it to your face. Then you work in small, gentle pressure movements. This allows the color to be distributed in a more controlled manner than if a heavily soaked sponge lands on one spot straight away.

The tested shop formula includes niacinamide, perfume and propolis extract. The ingredients list for 21N linked by the manufacturer also mentions fragrance and propolis. Avoiding these components is a relevant selection guide, regardless of how nice you like the can.

Check color first at the transition to the neck

The numbers 13 and 21N are not a cross-brand scale. “Ivory” also does not guarantee the same tone across different manufacturers. The two examples here are specific shades and not a recommendation that one of them will suit all light skin.

When trying it out, look at the transition from jaw to neck. Blend a small amount and view it in daylight if possible. If the brightness is correct, but the area looks noticeably pink or yellow, the undertone could be off. The back of your hand alone is often not very informative because it can look different than your face.

Take your time while looking. A freshly applied strip and the distributed, applied layer do not necessarily look the same. When buying online, comparison images of familiar nuances are helpful, but they remain dependent on lighting and screen. If you tell us a product tone that already suits you, that will be more helpful for advice than “rather light”.

Which consistency suits the care underneath?

Apply your skincare product evenly and give it a chance to spread before the color follows. A fixed waiting time does not suit every combination. It is practical when the surface is no longer so wet that the applicator pushes everything back and forth.

For combination skin, you can differentiate the application by area. Maybe the amount left on the tassel is enough on the forehead while you blend the cheeks more carefully. You don’t automatically need two make-up products for this. First see how far you can get with a thin, differently distributed layer.

SPF in make-up: Sun protection comes before it

The Purito BB Cream has SPF 30 PA+++, the TIRTIR Cushion linked here has SPF 40 PA++. These numbers refer to the respective test and application. A few dabs for color correction do not automatically provide the necessary amount and even coverage.

With the cushion, the applicator repeatedly touches the skin and product. Keep it clean, allow a cleaned applicator to dry completely and close the can after use.
