Should you do skincare every day?

The skin doesn’t keep a calendar. But it remembers what we do to it regularly.

That’s why the short answer is: A small basic routine can be daily. Not every product has to be used on the skin every day.

What can be useful every day

In the morning, the skin usually needs little: cleanse gently if necessary, moisturize according to the skin condition and plan for UV protection during the day.

In the evening, make-up, sunscreen, sweat and dirt are removed. Afterwards, a simple moisturizer can help to retain water in the stratum corneum.

If you have dry or sensitive skin, even a cleanser does not automatically have to be used morning and evening. Sometimes water in the morning and a mild cleanser in the evening are enough.

What is not automatically a daily occurrence

Exfoliants, highly concentrated acids, retinoids and other intensive active ingredients are not toothpaste. Their frequency depends on the product, skin condition and tolerance.

New active ingredients are best added individually and slowly. If the skin burns, peels heavily or remains red for a long time, a break is more sensible than discipline.

A good routine is not the longest. It’s the one that works even on a tired Tuesday.

What we know for sure

  • A simple routine usually consists of gentle cleansing, moisturizing as needed and protection from UV radiation.
  • Dermatological recommendations usually limit facial cleansing to a maximum of twice a day and additionally after heavy sweating.
  • Too many products and several irritating active ingredients at the same time can promote irritation.
  • Sun protection is part of daily skin protection when the skin is exposed to UV radiation. Shade and clothing are also included.
  • Persistent burning, eczema or inflammatory acne do not require a more complicated routine, but dermatological advice.

Legal guarantee

Official EU notice on the legal guarantee. Full wording follows below the graphic. Link to Your Europe, opens in a new tab.

Text of the EU notice

Minimum two-year legal guarantee protection for goods sold in the European Union.

Consumers can claim their rights under the legal guarantee of conformity, for example if goods:

  • do not match the description;
  • do not function as intended.

Sellers are liable for any lack of conformity which existed when the goods were delivered, and which becomes apparent within the legal guarantee period. Sellers in such a situation are required to offer:

  • free repair or free replacement;
  • in some cases, a price reduction or full reimbursement.

Some countries have a longer legal guarantee period. For second-hand goods, a shorter period may apply, but not less than one year.

For more information on your rights in a specific country, scan the QR code below or ask the seller.

What to do if you receive non-conforming goods:

  1. Contact the seller as soon as possible to report the issue;
  2. Provide proof of purchase, such as a receipt, invoice, or bank statement.

Sellers and producers may also offer commercial guarantees, which apply independently from the legal guarantee. For example, you may see this GARAN label representing a commercial guarantee of durability offered by the producer at no additional cost and covering the entire good.
